Dr. alvin summers, Lead Pastor

The Rev. Dr. Alvin Summers is the Pastor of East Campus of First Baptist Church Indian Trail. Prior to that, he served at the main campus as College and Career Pastor and Associate Minister of Music. For 17 years he was the pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Martin, Tenn. During that same time, Dr. Summers served as a campus liaison at the University of Tennessee at Martin serving as an adjunct professor of the Collegiate Gospel Choir and as chaplain of the UT Martin basketball and football team. He also served as director and writer of S.M.A.C.K., Spirituality Molds Attitude and Character in Kids, a program through the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Tennessee.

     Dr. Summers worked at Bethel University from 1995 until 2007. He served in several different aspects on campus including Dean of Students and Balladeer Choir director, the precursor to the famous Renaissance touring choir.

     He also served as Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Boughton, AR, Minister of Music at Springdale Baptist Church in Memphis, TN, Union Baptist Church, Hot Springs, AR, Phoenix Chapel A.M.E. Church in Olive Branch, MS.

     Dr. Summers’ education includes a Bachelor of Music Education from Henderson State University, a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry in Theology and the Arts from Memphis Theological Seminary. He is the Husband of Colleen for 31 years and is the Father of Colleen (CiCe) and Autumn Summers (AJ). These three are the love and joys of his life. But beyond all of this, he is a child of God and an avid worshipper who hopes to lead everyone he meets into an everyday walk with Jesus Christ.
